Radio Heatherwood in the 1980's

Look Back to the 80's Decade
for the Hospital Radio

After the launch of Radio Heatherwood in the 1970's the 1980's was a time for the radio to find it's feet and explore new ideas and promote the radio, not just on the air but in the community.

Some events that shaped the 1980's include change of management in the early years,no ward rounds no programs for presenters.Numerous premises refurbs. The introduction of an annual Grand Draw to raise the running costs. In 1987 the launch of the radio appeal to raise £10,000 to change the broadcast system. The following year the installation of the AM service in all patient care areas.

An improvement in training with the introduction of the code of conduct, improved general conduct and on-air presentation marked a substantial change to how the radio service was perceived.

The replacement of worn out equipment by professional broadcast kit.

As the decade came to an end, fundraising for the provision of a second studio was complete.
