What Was the Cost of Moving Radio Heatherwood:-
The final cost to move the radio studio can be divided into two parts
there is the part which was played by the hospital. This cost will
never ever be known we can only guess that they probably had to spend
anything from £8000 upwards.
Then there is the second part the contribution financially by the
league and the time given by the volunteers of the league.
Summer House - Our New Premises
The station engineer had the un-enviable task of putting it all
together and ensuring the costs were kept as low as possible. The
actual cash spent was £7150.
The rest of the project was funded by man-hours of the engineer and
various members of the radio staff. The engineer contributed 480 hours
spread over 80 extra visits to the hospital from January 2000 until
March 2001. Other volunteers also contributed a further 120 hours. We
are looking at £24 000 pounds worth of time based on engineering rates
of £50 per hour. Now add this altogether and we get
£31,150.contributed by the volunteers of the league.
If we were to calculate the overall cost we are probably looking at a
figure between £40-45 thousand pounds.
The true cost of the project will probably never be known because the
above figures don’t take into account the time taken by the engineer
in shopping for equipment etc and the time taken on the phone and
computer putting together the whole project.
The figures also don’t take into account time given by the Station
manager and the engineer’s family having to wait in on days for
deliveries from suppliers and the use of transport.
If it wasn't for the commitment of a dedicated volunteer force and the
financial support of the League of Friends it is quite likely
Heatherwood, would be without a hospital radio service.
Our thanks go out to all those who made possible the move of the
hospital radio station.
