As part of the radio authority requirements from Jan 1st 1994 all transmitted output must be kept for 42 days.
A video recorder was used as the best method of recording the sound output only.
Each days transmission required a date stamp to be added to the recording, this was devised as a set opening and closing cue sheet words, which presenters were instructed to follow.
From January 1994 under the terms of the licence presenters were instructed to use the revised cue sheets
These were designed by Dave Smith.
All presenters were reminded that should they fail to follow the cue sheet opening and closing, their position on the broadcast staff would be reviewed.
These new procedures added pages to the operations manual, which was used as part of the training of all presenters.
The monthly staff newsletter was started in 1987, over the years it took on many different forms.
In 1994 the newsletter was changed to bi monthly issues.
This first edition from 1994 detailed to presenters the new requirements under the broadcast licence, it also carried the news that the licence holder was transferred from a member of the hospital to the treasurer of the league of friends.
1994 was a very busy year for the station management and as the year unfolded there was much to do and organise

The design of the layout of the new room was down to the station engineer PJ.
There was three designs detailed, in the end due to financial restrictions we opted for the one which left us with minimum changes to the existing studio's but integrated the new room nicely.
The final design worked well and created a nice reception area for visitors and relaxation with tea making facilities.
As the year drew to a close the room was beginning to take shape but we were waiting on more funds and there was still a lot to do and this would take us well into 1995.
There was always an attendance log at the station in some form or another.
In 1994 it was changed into a 5 segment folder with pre printed pages for presenters to fill out the various sections.
Section one was personal attendance.
We were obligated to record our transmission times for the radio authority which was the second section.
Section three four and five allowed us to capture sales of batteries, loan radio faults and also where the prizes were distributed.
As station secretary, PJ would produce graphs for the staff news letter based on the recorded pages of the log.
As the year drew to a close, good progress had been made on completing the integration of the new reception.
Station manager Dave Smith was capturing the progress on his video camera, this clip from December.
Room With A View Video December 1994 Prior to CompletionAnother year draws to a close and I for one can't believe where the last twelve months have gone.
An interesting year for the radio station with people leaving and returning, another successful sweethearts ball in February and at long last the allocation of the room next door. The success of the radio this year, as always relies on the activity of the hospital.
Press reports about possible changes to the services offered at the hospital have had an immediate effect on donations sales of batteries and support in general for the league of friends.
Our standing with staff on the wards is as strong as ever with our ward rounds for requests and loan radio's cementing our commitment to providing a quality service for patients and staff. This doesn't go un-noticed by the nursing staff.
Loan radio's although the quantity on the wards has risen to 152 the sponsors obtained for new units is disappointing.
The first year under the new criteria imposed upon us from the Radio Authority has I believe been reasonably problem free apart from the video recorder in the early months.
Our relationship with the administration still remains tenuous with actions carried out by the administration with little or no consultation with us on the consequences of such actions.
The radio service has one important commodity which maintains the success of the service and that is the commitment of the staff who turn up each week. Two more long service awards this year to Alan Holder & Lee Henty for five years service should be encouragement to others of the commitment undertaken by staff.
On behalf of The League of Friends and the management team I would like to thank each and everyone of you for your contribution in 1994.
