1994 a year which was packed full of events and deeds which generated
a lot of interest in the radio. Radio Heatherwood was out in the
community publicizing it's services.
This page details some of those events which generated copy in the
local papers and also generated new promotional materials.
Loan Radio Landmark
Throughout the year the loan radio service continued to
receive donations to sponsor loan radio's.
This year included a summer holiday to Scarborough, and a
winter break in Scarborough.
The charity buzz this year spent the day at Southend on Sea
and raised £500 from the trip for the radio service.
The final trip of the year was a trip to lakeside shopping
centre for some Christmas shopping.
Grand Draw
The grand draw still the essential fundraiser for the station
once again was the event for the late summer. All presenters
played a part in ensuring tickets were sold at the hospital as
well as high street venues.
The station Secretary spent a lot of time and effort in trying
to get this through but to no avail. The radio Authority at
this time was more concerned with commercial lobbyists, than
charitable hospital radio's.
A letter received from the Radio Authority in October 1994
puts the final nail in the coffin as far as Radio Heatherwood
is concerned.
It was hoped that the frequency 105-108mHz fm which will be
free in 1995 would be allocated to hospital radios.
The discussion document issued by the Radio Authority and
discussed in committee after representations from interested
parties has approved the allocation of this frequency band for
the use by community radio groups who seek to provide a
service for Joe public within a radius of 5 km.
The only way we can obtain an FM frequency for the site is to
send in a competitive tender to serve the Ascot area and cover
the hospital with a second class service. One which would be
aimed at the Ascot community and not the hospital.
Due to the financial implications of this and the complete
departure from our aims it has been decided to bury this idea.
Long live the inductive loop.

Charity Stall
Charity Stall 26/3/94
This years long awaited impersonations of street traders by
members of the staff took place on 26/3.
Dave, PJ, Colin, Amanda, Rebecca, Alan, Lance, Jo and not
forgetting Kevin all gave up part of their Saturday to prove
they to could star in EastEnders
The day was a great wheeze and a lot of one liners were had
during the day. £217.58 was raised, the total down on last
year but still a great result.
Each year the Grand Draw would be launched at the end of June
and local newspapers were sent press releases detailing the
years prize sponsors and the location of ticket sales.
