Hospital Radio Heatherwood Promotion 1993
1993 a year which was packed full of events and deeds which generated a lot of interest in the radio. Radio Heatherwood was out in the community publicizing it's services.
This page details some of those events which generated copy in the local papers and also generated new promotional materials.

Toy Fairs

Nine toy fairs were organised throughout the year. PC Taffy Evans the Organizer.
Click to Enlarge:-The toy fairs expanded this year with three Sundays and 6 evenings in the year were planned.
A change in requirements by the hospital for the use of the social hall scuppered a number of the events. The last toy fair being held at Charters School in July.

Click to Enlarge:-The Radio Heatherwood supporters group continued to flourish with seven day trips organised by the Manager Dave Smith.
This year included a summer holiday to Scarborough, and a winter break in Llandudno.

Click to Enlarge:-The final trip of the year was a trip to Turners Musical Merry Go Round for their Christmas carol show.
As part of the development of the club this year, David drew up a design for sweatshirts for members.

Bop While You Shop
Music was once again relayed to the shoppers of Bracknell this year. Saturday 7th August reverberated to the sound of Radio Heatherwood.
Throughout the day tapes of half hour programs were played from the band stand to all passing shoppers.
PRS levied a charge this year for the use of the music, but a member of the radio staff, volunteered and paid the charge for the radio station.
The venue was also used to sell old records which had been donated since March

Barbershop Harmony Club Staines

Barbershop Harmony Club of Staines Promotion Poster.
Click to Enlarge:-In January this year the Barbershop harmony club of Staines paid a visit to the maternity out patients clinic one evening and were recorded singing a selection of their repertoire.
The musical director of the group was interviewed along with others from the group. The program was later transmitted to the patients.
Visitors passing the clinic, whilst the singing was taking place were enthralled with the sound of the chorus.

Grand Draw
The promotion on the radio for the grand draw stimulated some teams to put together their own versions of grand draw jingles with some entertaining results.
All presenters cast their vote and the winners were grateful for the prestige of being the winning entry.
The winner Rene&Yvette a parody on Allo Allo.(alias Roger Hawkes Yvonne Smith &Lee Henty.

Click to Enlarge:-The grand draw still the essential fundraiser for the station once again was the event for the late summer. All presenters played a part in ensuring tickets were sold at the hospital as well as high street venues.

Charity Stall
The Bracknell market charity stall was used once again this year. Booked for a Saturday in March.

Click to Enlarge:-Those visiting the stall were greeted with some unusual items on sale, including Eric Clapton's Guitar, Brice's Wig and Fanny Cradock's cooking utensil's.
A total of £300.21 was realised.

Fight For FM Hospital Radio 1993 Campaign
In 1993 Radio Heatherwood lent it's support to the national campaign to gain an FM frequency for hospital Radio's.
The campaign involved local MP's writing to local papers and also getting the hospital to support the cause.

Click to Enlarge:-The station Secretary spent a lot of time and effort in trying to get this through but to no avail. The radio Authority at this time was more concerned with commercial lobbyists, than charitable hospital radio's.

What did come out of this campaign was lots of press coverage, letters of support from the trust and the profile raised for the radio station
