After some public relations with the Ascot Fire Brigade Trust in 1988 the station purchased an Amstrad personal computer with specially written software for record libraries for hospital radio stations.
On the first birthday of Radio Heatherwood on the medium wave in April 1989: We see the completion of the computerization of the station library. The keying in of the information from August 88 till March 1989. All the computer entries were handled by the station manager.
A donation of £1000 by the Ascot Fire Brigade trust provided the computer for the station.
The official hand over by the trust took place on the 6th April.
Prior to the introduction of the library computer. the station library was maintained on paper record indexes in filing cabinets which relied a lot on presenters personal knowledge to find song titles and artists.
The introduction of the first computer for the radio station library was a significant change in the way the station progressed in new areas of promotion and administration. As time has gone by, the station would not have developed to it's current stage were it not for the computers at the station and in the homes of all it's volunteers.
