July 1987

1st

League of Friends AGM The chairman of the league of friends and the radio station resigns due to business commitments.

3rd

Ascot express grand draw article.

9th

Bracknell district council bottle bank presentation £150. The manager put on his best suite this evening to collect a cheque for the appeal.

10th

Ascot news grand draw article.

11th

The first staff newsletter was produced to keep all staff informed of the progress of the appeal.

14th

Survey and cable link to EMI unit installed. The continued delay in the EMI unit not being finished prompted some negotiations with the clerk of the works so that an initial cable link could be installed.

19th

Fun run, Tony Horder of Tuesday crew raises £60. Tony Horder of the Tuesday crew ran in a fun run in Reading. Tony got all his workmates at Satchwell's in Slough, to sponsor him.

20th

Interest from bank account £35.51.

25th

Third phase of letters to businesses sent (11). The second phase of letters had not produced one reply, so this third batch was sent.

At the end of the month of July a further 26 letters were sent to pubs, clubs, etc, in the area: completion of the appeal at the end of the year showed a total lack of response to this idea.

Patient donation of £1.

7th

Ascot express article for charity buzz. This idea was devised by the manager as a way of raising additional funds for the radio. Two coaches were destined for South Devon.

10th

Donation British Aerospace £200.

11th

Staff Newsletter Reports:- A drop in ticket sales for the grand draw, from previous years.

12th

Bracknell news article printed for charity buzz.

15th

Patient donation of £3.

18th

Charity buzz announced on Radio 210 courtesy of Ron Allen.

22nd

Bus station visitor donation of £5.

23rd

Car-boot in Ascot wood selling records raises £42.90. A cold August morning and the manager is up early to sell records and tapes donated to the station over the last eight months.

26th

Bracknell times feature on the radio Service. Donation of £200 from AUEW at British Aerospace.

The league of friends meeting was told that the EMI unit is behind schedule and is unlikely to be handed over in July.

Charity buzz Raises £582.

15th

Ron Allen announces charity night on Radio 210.

18th

Ascot express pre-charity night article- Grand draw night.

22nd

Ron Allen thanks Radio Heatherwood for their generosity.

25th

Ascot express front page for charity night.

30th

Patient donation of £7.

Diary Of An Appeal

Charting the progress of the appeal and keeping up to date with the events of the year.

Appeal Closed

The radio appeal initially did not have a finish date set.
As funds arrived and the year progressed it was decided that the appeal would close at the year end.

It's 1987 Radio Appeal

The South Devon tour was the first of the charity fundraiser's for the station this year.

A number of appeal jingles were produced. A second version was created when the appeal had reached it's first target and was looking to raise a further £8000.

Grand Draw

Grand Draw this year was still as important as the appeal fundraising,two jingles were produced.
